Advanced level: 10 miles of steep, tight, and technical whitewater that will surely fulfill the most adventurous rafter’s expectations.

Beginning with a three mile class III warm up the guide and the guest will get in sync to learn what will be required of each of them before reaching the more difficult section of the trip. After that, you reach the miracle mile where the gradient picks up to 211’ per mile before heading into 116’ per mile descent for the next 4 miles. It’s non-stop, continuous class V whitewater action, with boulder choked rapids that will test your brace and paddle stroke. Safety kayakers accompany each trip giving an extra margin of error, which is usually not needed, but always appreciated. The staff we have for the Upper Yough is the best of the best and we pride ourselves on our ability and athleticism. The owner of the company still guides on this section of river to ensure quality and standards that set the precedent that is Ohiopyle Trading Post and River Tours.

What to Expect

  • Skill and age requirements:

The trip takes 3-5 hours depending on water levels. Because the river is tight and technical we use smaller more maneuverable boats. We recommend that if you are a beginning rafter, have no boat handling experience, under the age of 18, or timid, you should take a Fully Guided Trip on the Lower Yough first.
