"Guide Escort is where you captain the raft but we drive the trip. We pull the trip over above every major rapid and give you a briefing. While the briefing is occurring we are setting up safety at strategic locations in each rapid to give assistance if needed. We guide you through the rapid with hand signals and safety kayakers and remember we are not in your raft. You are the captain and crew."
Lower Yough Guide Escorted Trips are exciting for experienced rafters and athletic folks with a gung-ho attitude. Someone needs to be the captain so select your most experienced, strongest willed, or trusted family member or friend. If they don't do such a good job steering...someone else (even you) can captain for a while.
Trading Post guides in rafts and kayaks escort your trip. If you have an out of boat experiecne it is necessary that you pull people back into the raft. This makes you the rescuer and can be the hero around the campfire. The guides give you instruction in boat handling and are there to show the way and offer some assistance in the more difficult rapids and spots on the river. Your ability to run the best line is up to you and your crew.
The guides spread out a deli style lunch. If you have vegetarians let us know and we can pack appropriately. Our guides are there to ensure the trip runs efficiently and help un-pin stuck boats.
River difficulty is Class III and IV. The trip takes 3-5 hours depending on water levels. When river level exceeds 4' high water occurs, therefore every boat must be fully guided. We recommend that if you are a begining rafter, have no boat handling experience, under 18, or timid, that you take a fully guided trip.
Our Guides and Safety Kayakers are highly skilled. We employ and train some of the best staff the industry has to offer. Our dedication to safety is paramount. Ohiopyle Trading Post Staff are highly trained in River Rescue, Rope Skills, First Aid, CPR, River Etiquette, Kayaking, Rafting and Team work. Although styled runs through the rapids hitting every wave and hole is our goal, "Out of Boat Experiences" do occurr, that is when we get the chance to be River Guides and rescue.

- Walk-Ins are welcome if we have space
- Book early to ensure desired date
- Bring sunscreen, eyeglass retaining straps, wear swimsuits and shorts.
- Let us know about allergies or medical conditions
- We cannot be responsible for personal items like cameras or wallets. (We sell waterproof cameras)
- River running has inherent dangers and risks. You will be required to assume risk, and to sign a waiver of liability release form.
All Minors MUST Have and Present a Release Form Signed
By Their Parents or Legal Guardians.
